Hampton Vienna City West: A Solid Hotel with a Surprise Upgrade
Hampton by Hilton is one of the most recognizable mid-range hotel brands, offering consistent quality at affordable prices worldwide. The Hampton by Hilton Vienna City West, which opened in fall of 2024, is, with more than 350 rooms, by far the largest Hampton hotel, not only in the city of Vienna but in Europe.
LOCATION
The building was newly constructed, so the rooms are ideally sized for a hotel of this type. The hotel's proximity to the important Vienna West train station, which can be reached on foot in 15 minutes, and the connection to the Vienna subway network right outside the door, make it a convenient and affordable alternative to a hotel in the city center. A large underground parking garage also makes it easy for those traveling by car.

ARRIVAL, LOBBY & CHECK-IN
We arrived around 12 noon and had to wait shortly until one of the two front desk agents attended to us. The check-in process was unspectacular, but to our delight, our room was ready and we were given the keys right away. As Diamond members, we were also allowed to choose a complimentary drink and snack.
Even though the lobby doesn't look much different from other Hamptons, the size of the hotel becomes apparent upon closer inspection. The reception desk is set up for up to four people to work at the same time, and the adjacent bar is also quite long. The entire first floor is furnished with many room-dividing elements to create a cozy feeling, but the furnishings also camouflage the size of the whole thing, as the entire first floor also serves as the breakfast room. There are more seats and tables around every corner.

ROOM
Since we had two consecutive reservations, we had the opportunity to experience two different rooms types. For our last night we got a free upgrade to a very special room type, of which there are only three in the whole hotel and which is a special feature for the Hamptons. But let's start with the standard room:
KING ROOM
The majority of the rooms in the hotel are King Rooms. The furnishings are very typical for a European Hampton and look familiar. King bed, small sofa bed, closet with safe. We got a room on the top floor of the building, which was a bit smaller due to the sloping roof, but made up for it with the view. The windows could be opened or darkened with a switch on the wall - very modern.

KING STUDIO
A highlight of this Hampton is the King Studio Rooms, which not only have a separate living room with a sofa bed but also a full kitchenette, allowing for self-catering. However, there are only three of these rooms in the entire hotel, so if you want to stay in one, you should book early.
The kitchenette was equipped with a large refrigerator, a two-burner induction stove, a microwave, and even a dishwasher. We were very thankful that we received this room as a Diamond upgrade for one night and were able to test and document it. To try out the kitchen, we successfully cooked some pasta with tomato sauce. However, the setup is not yet perfect, and we think the hotel operator could make some improvements.

For example, there were no dishwasher tabs, even upon request, so we couldn't use the dishwasher without buying supplies from a supermarket. There were also no kitchen towels, and a roll of paper towels would have been helpful. The kitchenware included only two sets of dishes and cutlery, which seems too few given that families might book this room—four sets would be more practical. There were three different pots, a frying pan, and two cutting boards, but no sharp knife.

Overall, we found this room very practical. It is very comfortable for two people but can also accommodate a family of four. Even though the kitchen is small, it allows for self-catering, which is a great option for longer stays or travelers looking to save on dining costs.
WIFI SPEED
We measured a consistent internet speed of 30 Mbps upstream/downstream. The connection was stable and sufficient for most needs, including streaming and video calls.
ROOM TEMPERATURE
The hotel is equipped with a modern air conditioning system that allows both cooling and heating, a rarity in Europe. However, guest controls only allow the temperature to be adjusted by three degrees Celsius up or down. We stayed during the winter months and prefer a cooler room. The lowest temperature we could achieve was about 20°C, which was comfortable for sleeping, though not quite three degrees lower than the original setting. We hope the cooling system will be more effective during the summer months.

BREAKFAST
Due to the size of the hotel, the lobby gets very crowded and busy at breakfast time. The size of the buffet is appropriate for the number of guests and the selection is usual for a Hampton. Of course, there is the famous Hampton waffle to make yourself. The hotel has placed waffle irons around the lobby so there are no long lines.
There are also several coffee makers. The buffet is centrally located. Due to the number of guests it was not possible for us to take decent pictures of the food and especially not of other guests. We have therefore refrained from doing so in this case.
However, the buffet can be described as typical for a European Hampton: Cold cuts, cereals, some hot dishes like scrambled eggs, sausages, potato products and beans, etc. We definitely missed more service staff, both to prepare and replenish the buffet, and to clear and clean the tables, as it felt like this didn't happen at all during the entire breakfast time. However, this may have been due to a temporary shortage of staff.

GYM
The hotel has a small but well-equipped gym with a variety of cardio and fitness equipment. There are a couple of treadmills, bikes, and other cardio machines. It also has a small mat area for bodyweight exercises with dumbbells up to 20 kg . The space was well-lit and clean, and it was not too crowded in the morning.

OVERALL SERVICE
For a newly opened hotel, the hotel was already well booked and operations seemed solid. We were pleased that as Diamond members we automatically got the best rooms on both stays. The staff is hardworking and friendly, we felt very welcome.
STAY DETAILS
We stayed at the Hampton by Hilton Vienna City West for a total of three nights in December 2024.
STATUS RECOGNITION
As Diamond guests, we were automatically given the best room available, and we were also allowed to choose a drink and snack, as is customary at Hampton. On our last day, we were allowed to check out late at 2 p.m. without any problems. Our reservation was for one person, but of course the second person was allowed to check in free of charge, a benefit that all Honors members receive free of charge.
SUMMARY
We were very satisfied with the Hampton by Hilton Vienna City West. The hotel is conveniently located and has sufficient capacity to offer a good alternative to the more centrally located hotels. The value for money is good and we will certainly use the hotel more often in the future, especially at times when the city center hotels are fully booked or very expensive.
